Espresso Drinks

Espresso is the result of forcing pressurized steam through finely ground coffee beans and collecting that steam as it returns to liquid. Think of it as strong concentrated coffee. A shot of espresso is 1-1.5 oz of fluid. At The Bread Shack we make our espresso drinks using 2 shots or double shots this is between 2-2.5 oz of fluid. A double shot requires 14-16 grams of finely ground coffee beans. All espresso drinks follow a formula based on the ratio of espresso to milk (or other dairy product) and each has a specific name.

ESPRESSO - served in a demitasse cup 2 oz of espresso

LATTE - 1 part espresso/2 parts steamed milk/1 part foam

CAPPUCCINO - equal parts espresso/steamed milk/foam

BREVE - latte—made with ½ – ½

MOCHA LATTE - latte with chocolate syrup and whipped cream

AMERICANO - 1 part espresso/2-6 parts water
